Factors that impact the UK job market

As expected there is definitely a seasonal trend with jobs, with three factors impacting the season that can be correlated:

  • Holidays
  • Company financial budget reviews
  • Government budget announcements

We’re not tracking every single available job in the UK yet but there’s enough data to spot the seasonal trend. No-one should be surprised that new vacancies took a dip. -20% and more (depending on role), over the month of August.

We’re looking forward to proving the company financial budget factor soon given a couple popular fiscal year end options coming up; calendar year end, December and fiscal year end March.

Of course, we would be remiss not to mention the impact that the UK budget announcement tomorrow (30 October 2024) will have which most likely will impact vacancies if Employer’s National Insurance rates are going to be increased, headcount budgets will be squeezed along with recruitment related budgets.
